League of Women Voters of Connecticut Education Fund's Symposium on International Relations




“The Movement of People:  A Global Perspective on Migrants, Refugees and Displaced Persons”

Migration is in the daily news in terms of United States problems and policies but it is a global reality.  What happens in society when the world’s people are in motion?  The League of Women Voters of Connecticut Education Fund, in conjunction with the Albert Schweitzer Institute at Quinnipiac University and the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale University, will present their 39th Symposium on International Relations on Tuesday, April 8, 2008.  The symposium will take place at Quinnipiac University’s Carl Hansen Student Center from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Speakers will include Dr. Elizabeth Campbell, Director of the Refugee Council USA; Dr. Peggy Levitt, Chair of the Department of Sociology at Wellesley College and Co-Director of the Transnational Studies Initiative at Harvard University; and Dr. Stephen Pitti, History Professor and Director of the Program in Ethnicity, Race and Migration at Yale University.  Symposium Moderator will be Dr. Nancy Ruther, Associate Director of the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale University.  Pre-registration fees are $20 for adults and $10 for students.  All registrations on the day of the Symposium will be $25 per person.  A continental breakfast will be included.  For more information, please contact the League of Women Voters of Connecticut at 203-0288-7996 or by email at league@snet.net.
